A Personal Journey Through the Tarot: The Hierophant

Institutionalized Learning

There are as many ways to learn as there are to teach. Not all of us thrive in the standard institutions of learning our culture provides while, at the same time, not every institution is an obvious place for learning. The institution of marriage is not one we often equate to a place of learning but if we refuse to learn about ourselves and our partner within this institution the marriage is doomed to fail.

The Hierophant is referring to an institution in which we are readily taught, but of course those teachings are shaped by the philosophies inherent within the chosen institution. Each institution enforces its own set of rules, regulations and belief structures.

Today I draw the The Hierophant and reflect upon my next stage of learning. Am I willing to be open minded enough to accept the teachings? Am I ready and willing to commit to my chosen institution? Is my chosen institution a good fit for me?
