Heart Break

If your life is long and interesting it will inevitably include heart break. Humans are fallible and, whether they mean it or not, they will cause pain and suffering. You can not and will not make it through life unscathed. Your first love will more than likely not be your last love, you will be betrayed and you will be abused. The trick is to understand that you can grow thrive and survive after this type of injustice. 

Kintsugi is the Japanese art form of repairing broken pottery using gold dusted lacquer, creating something beautiful from something that was broken. It is through the disaster that we develop depth of character and a beauty that transcends the surface. To learn to appreciate the imperfect is to learn to see the beauty in the fractured. The grey hair, the wrinkles, the callouses all tell a story of a rich and full life. The heart break may seem insurmountable when it happens, but when honoured it becomes a part of a long history adding beauty to the wisdom gained.

Today I draw the Three of Swords and ask myself if I can suffer this heart break with grace? Can I see this situation as a part of a larger tapestry of my life? Can I turn this sorrow into a golden thread that leads to a greater understanding of my humanity?
